The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Argentina Yuriy Klymenko held an online meeting with students and staff of the Faculty of International Relations.

Dean Yuriy Voloshyn introduced the speaker and noted that such meetings with diplomats have already become a traditional and important aspect for the education and training of students in the field of international relations.

During the lecture-discussion, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Argentina spoke about the diplomatic relations between Argentina and Ukraine, potential opportunities for cooperation and the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the inauguration of Argentine President Javier Milei.

Yuriy Klymenko emphasized the importance of Argentina as a key partner in Latin America for expanding cooperation and its role in organizing and hosting the Global Peace Summit. Argentina can make a significant contribution to the implementation of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula. In particular, with regard to radiological and food security, they are also discussing Argentina's involvement in the work on a compensation mechanism for the damage caused by Russian aggression.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary stressed that after the full-scale invasion Argentina condemned Russian aggression and now not only supports our country during the UN voting, but also became a co-author of international initiatives within the UN and other international organizations.

Yuriy Klymenko said that Argentina will host the Ukraine-Latin America and the Caribbean Summit this year, which will give a new impetus to cooperation with the countries of the region. Ukraine is interested in developing trade, economic and investment cooperation with Argentina right now, without waiting for the war to end. Cooperation is planned in the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. There are also prospects for cooperation in the metallurgical, aerospace, and military-technical sectors. Argentine companies can join initiatives to restore Ukraine's infrastructure and post-war reconstruction, as well as implement investment projects in agriculture.

Yuriy Klymenko noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Argentina has been actively involved in humanitarian initiatives. He spoke about former pilot Enrique Piñeiro, who provided his plane to rescue people from Ukraine and transport humanitarian aid. Since March 2022, 16 batches of humanitarian aid weighing 142 tons have been sent to Ukraine, including clothing, medicines, and drinking water purification products. He also noted the active civic position of the Argentine community in Ukraine, which provides assistance and shows solidarity.

Yuriy Klymenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Argentina, answered the questions of students and teachers concerning the peculiarities of the socio-political situation in Argentina, as well as opportunities for Ukrainians in this country and their important role in its development. In addition, Yuriy Klymenko emphasized the importance of the Spanish language for maintaining and expanding ties with Latin American countries, calling for its active study in Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador wished success to the students and expressed hope for further strengthening of cooperation between the National Aviation University and the leading educational institutions of Argentina.
