Real legend in NAU

Oleh Korostelev, Hero of Ukraine, General Designer of the Luch Design Bureau, together with the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine, launched a systematic support for students of technical specialties at NAU.

On December 5, the team of the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine visited the National Aviation University. The guest of honor was Oleh Korostelev, Hero of Ukraine, General Designer and Director of the State Enterprise Kyiv Design Bureau Luch.

The main purpose of the visit was to sign an agreement on cooperation between the NAU and the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine. One of the first steps in this cooperation was the allocation of 10 scholarships by the Association to support NAU students. At the awarding ceremony in the hall of the Academic Council, Volodymyr Shulha, chairman of the NAU Reorganization Commission and acting rector, said: "Oleh Korostelev is one of the leaders of the Ukrainian defense industry and, above all, the "father" of such projects of the Ukrainian missile program as Neptune, Vilkha, and Stugna. We are very pleased that Oleh Korostelev and the team of the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine visited the university and supported our students. We are very proud that he is a graduate of our Alma Mater and an honorary doctor of NAU."

Volodymyr Shulha took this opportunity to present Oleh Korostelev with an Honorary Doctorate of NAU: the relevant decision was made by the University's Academic Council on June 16, 2021. In his speech, Oleh Korostelev, General Designer of the Luch Design Bureau, noted the importance of NAU in training engineers of technical specialties and, using a personal example, told students about the importance of fundamental knowledge for personal growth. He fondly recalled his student years at NAU and wished all students success in their studies. When presenting the scholarship winners with their certificates, Deputy Chairman of the National Association of Defense Industry Enterprises of Ukraine Serhiy Vysotsky noted that the main motive was to support students of technical specialties at NAU so that they could concentrate on their studies and acquire fundamental knowledge.

Thus, 10 scholarships will be paid monthly during the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. The amount of the scholarship is UAH 15,000 for undergraduate students and UAH 20,000 for graduate students (including all deductions in accordance with the Tax Code of Ukraine) per month per person. Also, the selected scholarship holders must prepare a scientific paper of up to one printed page in the field of scientific and educational interests of the NAUCS.

In the final part of the event, answering the questions of the students, Oleh Korostelev elaborated on the problems facing the Ukrainian defense industry in the context of the war and expressed hope that his Alma Mater will continue to be the main forge of personnel for the domestic aircraft and rocketry industry. The Hero of Ukraine also responded positively to the students' proposal to head the Supervisory Board of the NAU as an educational experiment of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
