Acting Rector Volodymyr Kharchenko signed an agreement on membership of the National Aviation University in the International Publishing Citation Association (Publishers International Linking Association, PILA).

Now, as a member of PILA, scholars of NAU can register their publications, being accessible to scientists around the world, via CrossRef DOI identifiers, and it will dramatically increase the citing of our university works.

An important factor, directly affecting the international competitiveness rating, is the University Publication activity of its scientists. The indicators are related to Publication Activity Range from 20% to 60% of the total score in international university ranking, such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, Shanghai Rating or Ranking of Top Universities in Greater China (RTUGC)), Times Higher Education World University Ranking (THE WUR) and the QS World University Ranking (QS).

English-language scientific journal “Proceedings of the National Aviation University” (“Bulletin of NAU”) is the first edition of NAU to be assigned a DOI identifier. DOI conferment to each article published in the magazine has become an important step towards the planned joining the two most respected in the world publication databases Scopus and Web of Science. The university is planning to assign DOI for other scientific journals published by NAU.

PILA Association, which NAU has just joined, pools recourses of more than 500 publishing houses, universities, scientific societies and other publishers of scientific materials and is the owner and operator of CrossRef, an International Register of scientific information materials and related metadata-based DOI technology.

DOI (Digital object identifier) is a unique identification number (alphanumeric string) given to electronic documents and serves as the reference to the storage location of content in the Internet. DOI identifier consists of two parts where the first part (prefix) means the publisher, and the second part (suffix) identifies the publication. DOI prefix newly assigned by the National Aviation University is 10.18372; by this number we can find our university on the list of member organizations at CrossRef, while the suffix is individual for each article.

DOI is an essential attribute of the international scientific communication. This identifier is available in most publications of international periodicals. The presence of DOI in the publication makes the reference stable; that means it is easier to find the necessary article (or magazine) in the Internet according to its unique number. This greatly increases the citation of the work in reputable international sources. The growth of the number of citations of articles of a scientist automatically increases his  personal citing h-index being an author-level metric that attempts to measure both the productivity and citation impact of the publications of a scientist or scholar. (The index is based on the set of the scientist's most cited papers and the number of citations that they have received in other publications).
