On 11-12 of February NAUHUB (National Aviation University) held a social hackathon S.HACK (SocialHackathon)

This Hackathon was supported by the British Council, the program Active Citizens.

7 teams named “Deadline”, “Ilitka Corporation”, “5-1”, “Linx”, “Lazy Bones”, “NAU Bot”, “New Team №1” took part in the hackathon and they had been working for 36 hours on their projects.

That Saturday started with very useful lectures from the mentors. Alexander Marchenko, a certified frontend and dotnet developer and now a project manager, described evolution in education. Ksenia Semenova, a representative of Conscious Communication Community, revealed the secrets of obtaining projects funding through the prism of personal experience.

The English speaker Uwe Poom from Beetroot Academy told the participants why most startups selected client-oriented approach.

Anton Chorny delivered an extraordinary useful training for the teams helping the participants to consolidate the theoretical knowledge that any startup was client-oriented one.

After having dinner the mentors developed a speeddating, where each team had an opportunity to present their ideas and get advice. The honoured mentors were: Alexander Marchenko, Uwe Poom, Alena Denga from 1991 Open Data Incubator, Ihor Kravchyshyn from  NAU Informal, Oleg Krystyuk from Colorway, Ksenia Semenova, Eugene Artamonov and Alexander Panfierov from Braille Device.

The teams had very interesting ideas: a bot that helps in searching study rooms, lecturers and partners in the Telegram; a resource where with a single click you can find like-minded people and vote for proactive people; an automation of purchases; an interactive map of the University; a crowdfounding platform for further education; a resource generator for recipes and resources that will help students not to die of hunger.

On Sunday, as a part of this hackathon, there was held a panel discussion on the problem: “Women’s Social Dimension of Entrepreneurship. How and Why do Women Change the World?” with Maria Kryuchok, as a moderator, who organized TEDxKyiv, dedicated to the International Day of girls and women in science. Charming participants took part in the discussion - Ksenia Semenova from 3C, Alena Denga from 1991 Open Data Incubator, Olga Zharova from KNEUmedia and Olga Nizhnyk from WOWkids. By the results of the discussion one can come to the conclusion that women and men both contribute to social entrepreneurship.

The third place was taken by “New Team №1” presenting the project “Boomerang”, which allows you to find like-minded people and get bank support. They got a free admission ticket for each participant to the Museum of Science “Experimentarium”.

The second place was won by the team "NAU bot" and they received a certificate of UAH 2,000 for the idea of PARP bot in the Telegram that helps with timetable and free rooms.

The team “Deadline” won the first place and received a certificate of UAH 4,000 from Beetroot Academy and a certificate for entry into any quest-room “Zamkneni (Closed)”.

The team “5-1” received the People's Choice Award, because of its very original presentation in solving the problem of finding food for starving students.

The organizers of this hackathon were: Anne Albert, Alexander Pluzhnyk, Alina Dovhaya, Katerina Denysenko, Maxim Sydorchuk and Vitaliy Mamchur (first and second year students of NAU). The incredibly positive atmosphere of the event was created by a team of volunteers.

We’d like to thank Beetroot Academy - Kyiv, Trade Union of students and postgraduates of NAU, quest-rooms Zamkneni/Closed/Locked Up and Experimentarium for contributing to the prize pool of the hackathon. Also, we’d like to express gratitude to LSN for providing the internet and trouble-free technical support for the event.

Thanks to all the Mentors for having inspired the teams and improved their ideas.

Thanks to the Publishing house Wolf (Sumy) for nice gifts to the participants.

Thanks to NAU Informal for organizational and information support.

Thanks to MEDIA NAU for media stories and filming. Thanks to our photographer Vitaly Kuschyy for wonderful pictures.

Thanks to CMA of NAU and personally Olena Matviichuk and Igor Antuha that the speakers’ and teams’ performances were heard in every corner of the hub; and thanks to the Admissions Committee of NAU that found a possibility to locate so many guests.
